GIOVANNI'S STORY

Disconcerting, ironic, and sincere: a true story that moves, entertains, and provokes thought.

“The disease of sin without sin, through the voice and mind of a twelve-year-old.”

“I was told that I shouldn’t be afraid because nothing will change, but now that I know, I have to be careful; I mustn’t tell anyone, because my illness scares those who don’t have it more than those who do.”

My name is Giovanni, I am twelve years old (almost thirteen), and I was born with HIV.

I HAVE A WISH, AND I WAS TOLD THAT THIS BOOK COULD HELP ME REALIZE IT:

I would like to talk about my illness because the silence makes me feel a bit lonely (and I really don’t like loneliness) and because it can also help those who don’t have it not to worry (the doctor told me that, you know).

“Happy reading,” Giovanni.
